Carson City veteran, songwriter and entertainer wins national honor
Every year, the Veterans' Administration holds a talent contest open to all U.S. Veterans. This year, a bronze medal was won by Carson City veteran David Kotzebue.
In March, Kotzebue performed at the Reno VA in seven categories, earning him 3 golds, 2 silvers, a bronze and an honorable mention in the local competiton. His performance of his song, “All My Dates Go Ribbit,” was forwarded on to the national judges, who recently awarded him the bronze in the Category of Comedy Song.
The win opened volunteering gigs for the Carson City veteran. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, he will perform a comedy show for the Reno VA resident patients. He's also coordinating with Carson City's Children's Museum about a concert there.
Kotzebue is a retiree from his first two careers, and is writing in retirement. He has published seven books, hundreds of songs, and he hopes to break in to screenwriting. He relishes the opportunities to volunteer that retirement offers.
