Carson City youth graduate from entrepreneur program through Juvenile Justice Services
The Carson City Juvenile Services Department graduated seven local youth, ages 12-17 from the Entrepreneur Mindset Program. This is the third year this program has been facilitated at Juvenile Services and the sixth graduating class.
The 10-week program is designed to implement life and job skills to the youth to better prepare them for their future. After completion of the program Jeff Glass, the program facilitator, will assist youth in finding jobs, filling out job applications and assist them in their college aspirations.
One graduate of the Entrepreneur Mindset Program has recently been accepted to Harvard and others paired with jobs throughout the community.
Students enrolled in this program must attend a ten weeks of classes. The program 's objective is for students to come away feeling like they have an extra tool in their tool belt to draw from when facing real world situations. The program relies heavily on themes of honor in the workplace, what it mean to set up and be responsible for a business, and the importance of partnership in both business and in life.
The youth are taught that we are the sum of our decision, that the decisions we make now can really chart the path for a better life. Entrepreneurship shows students how take responsibility for their actions and make appropriate decisions with appropriate boundaries.
The graduation celebration was attended by local dignitaries, including Mayor Bob Crowell and Carson City Sheriff Furlong. Crowell, who addressed the youth during the graduation, said programs like the Entrepreneur Mindset program are a great way to build the youth of our future and to build a better community.
Graduates parents along with Juvenile Probation staff also attended the graduation. Graduation certificates were distributed by Sheriff Furlong, Jeff Glass, Chief Ali Banister and Mayor Bob Crowell.
