Carson City Judge Thomas R. Armstrong named Judge of Year by Nevada association

The Nevada Judges Association consisting of over 80 Justices of the Peace and Municipal Court Judges from the Justice and Municipal Courts throughout the State of Nevada honored Carson City Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge Thomas R. Armstrong with the Association’s Judge of the Year Award at the 2017 Winter Seminar.

Judge Cynthia Leung, 2016 Judge of the Year, stated “This is a high honor to be recognized by your peers, the award embodies the qualities of leadership, a genuine call to civic responsibility, and service to our organization.

Since becoming a judge, Judge Thomas R. Armstrong has committed his time and energy by teaching at the New Judge Orientation and has taught classes on evidence; he is the Chair of the Legislative Committee, serves on the Nevada Supreme Court Indigent Defense Committee, Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline, the Specialty Court Funding Committee, and served four years on the Judicial Council of the State of Nevada. He is a board member of the Circles of Support and a former Board Member of the Carson City Boys and Girls Club.”

Judge Thomas R. Armstrong was very humbled when he received the award and stated, “I am very surprised. Prior to becoming a judge, I worked in almost every jurisdiction in the State of Nevada and always had the utmost respect for all the work the judges performed. I hope to live up to the award and will continue to serve you. I really appreciate it.”
Judge Thomas R. Armstrong has been Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge in Carson City, Department I, since 2011.

A 58-year-old transient was arrested early Saturday, 1:21 a.m. in the area of North Stewart and East Washington streets for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 21, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court.

A new study from the Wildlife Conservation Society, Nevada Department of Wildlife and the University of Nevada-Reno finds that conservation efforts have resulted in successful re-colonization of black bears into portions of their historic ranges in the Great Basin in Nevada. The animals had been absent from these areas for more than 80 years.

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be Joining Forces looking for drivers and other occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seatbelts and, or children who are not properly secured in car or booster seats. Northern Nevada deputies and troopers will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations now through Dec. 2, 2017.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in locating a vending machine that was stolen from Smith’s grocery store between Nov. 6 and Nov. 14. The vending machine contained 40 millimeter rubber bouncy balls and is valued over $500.

A traffic stop Sunday in Gardnerville led to the arrest of two men who face drug trafficking charges after methamphetamine and cocaine were recovered, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
