District to Host Meeting on Eagle Valley Middle School Construction

To discuss classroom-space expansion plans for Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS), the Carson City School District will host an in-person meeting in the EVMS gym, Thursday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.

Face masks and socially distanced protocols will be observed. The meeting will address anticipated long-term growth of the district and the need to find solutions for a growing school enrollment. Spanish translation will be available during the meeting.

The district is interested in community feedback regarding the proposed addition to the school and will take questions following the presentation. The meeting is open to the public.

Those who are unable to attend in person may provide comments at publiccomment@carson.k12.nv.us. Individuals are encouraged to share this invitation with colleagues, friends and neighbors who may also be interested in participating.

For the first time in a decade, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport posted more than four million passengers in a year. The figures show a 9.6 percent increase over 2016, officials said Monday.

A 43-year-old man was arrested late Friday near the intersection of Carson and Robinson streets for felony possession of controlled substances and other charges after more than 100 prescription pills were found in baggies inside the man's vehicle, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Carson City Fire Department will start prescribed fire operations the week of Monday, Feb. 26 and continue as weather conditions allow. Smoke may be visible from anywhere in the city.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle accident Friday afternoon near the intersection of Roop and Long Street.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested early Friday in the 3000 block of Airport Road for suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association Sierra Tahoe Unit No. 137 hosted a pet parade Thursday, for the residents of Richards Crossing in Carson City that included a pet parade, dinner and a $500 donation from the organization.

Pieces from an aircraft that crashed and killed a Minden pilot Monday have been recovered by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team.

Two skiers who became lost Thursday after skiing out of bounds were rescued, one Thursday night and the other plucked Friday morning by a Blackhawk helicopter from NAS Fallon, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both skiers were wet and cold but otherwise escaped injuries.

During the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers handled a large number of crashes in the region.
