NHP: Pedestrian killed overnight while crossing East McCarran in Sparks
The Nevada Highway Patrol continues to investigate a New Year's Eve accident Wednesday in which a man walking across East McCarran was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a Fallon woman.
The accident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to vehicle versus pedestrian accident south of Prater Way near Lincoln Way in Sparks, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
The preliminary investigation details indicate a green 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driven by a 29-year-old Fallon woman was traveling southbound on East McCarran when an adult male was running west across East McCarran from the Silver State Plaza when he was struck by the woman's vehicle in the left lane, said Gibson.
The unidentified male was not in a crosswalk when he was struck. The woman stopped at the scene of the accident to check the status of the pedestrian, called 911 and stayed on scene to cooperate fully with the investigation. NHP does not suspect she was impaired at the time of the accident, said Gibson.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The speed limit in this area of East McCarran is 40 mph and there is spot roadway lighting. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
