Carson Stomps Galena For League Title
It was another Friday Night Smackdown for the Carson High Senators on the football field, this time in Galena with Carson cutting loose on the Grizzlies with a 34-0 upset, souring their homecoming and firming up Carson's strengths heading into late fall high school football action. The Carson Senators are now 6 wins and two losses on the season.
The Galena Grizzlies were entertaining the Carson Senators for their Homecoming game and a with a Senator victory, they would clinch the Sierra League title. The Grizzly Homecoming theme was "a Hunted Homecoming" and they were not able to escape the curse upon their football team as they haven't time and time again this season.
In the first quarter was Carson beginning to end starting from the Senators very first possession when they drove down the field starting within their own 20 yard line to strike first. Galena came back with a promising drive, but turned the ball over while they were deep in the red zone. In the second quarter the usual scoring suspect Colby Brown found the endzone, putting the Senators up 13-0 after a missed extra point and that score would remain into half time.
The second half would be more of the same story including some explosive Carson plays to add to the Senator lead with not one, not two, but three more touchdowns and another three successful extra points to leave Carson with 34 points on the board. The Senator defense was even more strong in the second half as Galena couldn't find a weakness and continued to struggle winning the turn over aspect which led to another 0 on the box score for Galena. The final score of this contest was a shut out at Carson: 34, Galena: 0.
With the win Carson has won the Sierra League title for four of the last five years and have secured the ever so important home field advantage for the first round of playoffs. The Senators have a bye-week this coming week and will finish the regular season with Nevada's biggest rivalry against the Douglas Tigers on Friday, Nov. 7.
