Rest Peacefully, Richard Jay Griffin, Sr.
After a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, the heavens above gained a new star. Richard Jay Griffin, Sr., 76, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Carson City, Nevada surrounded by family at home. He passed peacefully with his favorite music in the background as he was read to.
Richard was an inspiration to many and had the journey of a lifetime. He was a Veteran and fought for his country, serving in the United States Navy. He is a graduate of Loyola College where he received academic honors and believed that if you want something then you should work for it. Richard worked his way up to Director of Finance at the University of Maryland. Richard was a Past Master of Howard Lodge #101 in Elkridge, Maryland in 1984 and his favorite place of worship was at Salem Lutheran Evangelical Church in Catonsville, Maryland. He also served as a Firefighter in Maryland.
Richard’s Alzheimer’s only allowed him to discover new things, like a passion for dogs as pets, eating chicken and red meat, and became more expressive with his emotions. Richard smiled at the sight of everything; little children playing with his walker, laughing as the kittens ran across his lap playing or smiling just because was is alive.
Richard was a devoted husband to Dolleen and a loving father to Adrienne and Jay. His son, Jay preceded him in death. Richard was a proud and adoring grandfather to Jennifer, Phil, Mike, and Brendon. Richard’s great-grandchildren were his favorite blessings; Kayla, Emmalyn, Christian, Damyyon, Madalyn, and Olivia.
Richard was an admirable man who only wanted the best for everyone, be forever missed, and always be the brightest star sparkling in the sky.
With respect to Richard’s wishes, there will be no memorial services. However, caregiver and end of life donations can be made through Crowd Rise at http://bit.ly/1O4kLUB
