Carson City Fair announces grand champion livestock, auction results
The second annual Carson City Fair brought local youth in agriculture, live music, home craft exhibitors, antique tractors and much more than last year. The fair provides a venue for local youth enrolled in 4-H, FFA and Grange to showcase their agricultural projects.
The youth range in age from 5 to 18 years old, and participate in showmanship, market and breeding classes. Market animals such as hogs, lambs and steers where auctioned off on Friday evening. The fair was held July 25-29 at the fairgrounds at Fuji Park in south Carson City.
The auctioneer, Mr. George Alm of Redeemed Home Furnishings volunteered his services and provided a great source of entertainment.
This year the auction consisted of 1 steer, 3 hogs, 11 lambs, and 15 goats. The Grand Champion Market Hog was raised by Jason Lewis of the Churchill Baconators Club, it weighted 270 pounds and was purchased by Bently Ranches for $6.25 per pound.
The Grand Champion Lamb was raised by Lillie McKinney with Carson Valley FFA Club, it weighted 119 pounds and was purchased by Les Schwab for $8 per pound.
The Grand Champion Market Goat was also raised by Lillie McKinney, it weighted 88 pounds and was purchased by Simerson Construction for $7.25 per pound. The Grand Champion Market Steer was raised by Lander Smith of the Arrowhead Livestock 4-H Club, it weighted 1330 pounds and was purchased by Les Schwab for $3 per pound.
The Carson City Fair would like to thank all of the Livestock Auction Buyers for their generous support of our local youth. We hope to see you next year.
