Author, Carson High School alum Teri Case's new novel wins National Indie Excellence Award
Carson High School alum Teri Case has done it again. Her second novel, "In the Doghouse: A Couple's Breakup from Their Dog's Point of View," has won its first award: The National Indie Excellence Award for Fiction.
Similar to her first award-winning novel, "Tiger Drive," this is a story about characters going through life changes and wanting to matter. "Except," says Case, "it's much lighter because, well, the main character is a rescued dog."
According to BZCE Publishing, the story is as follows: Skip is a rescued dog who wants to matter. He loves living in a blissful pack with his human couple, John and Lucy, and he has bow-vowed to never lose them. But when John walks out after seven happy years, Lucy and Skip’s world is turned upside down. Skip’s determined to guide Lucy through her identity crisis, but he’s harboring a secret: he’s to blame for the breakup and her broken heart. Can Skip build a new pack for Lucy and himself and become indispensable to her before she discovers his canine treason and kicks him to the curb?

Both of her novels help fund a Carson High School scholarship, The Tiger Drive Scholarship. Case was inspired to create the scholarship to pay back the Carson City community for its support in the 1980s.
When asked who deserves to win the scholarship, Case replied, "A student who is reaching, learning, and growing beyond his, or her familiar environment."
