State party organizer to speak at Democratic luncheon in Carson City
The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Shane Scott, Field Organizer with the Nevada Democratic Party. He will talk about opportunities for Carson City's 10,000 Democrats to get involved with this year's election, and how everyone inside the party's "big tent" can work together to elect Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.
As an experienced community organizer, Shane is excited to engage with local Democrats and encourage them to help make this year's critically important campaign a success, both here in Nevada and around the nation.
The Nevada State Democratic Party exists to foster unity among a broad spectrum of progressive advocates, with the goal of creating fair opportunities and equal rights for all. The party's platform emphasizes a number of key social issues and policies, among them the following:
Economy and Jobs: This includes support for raising the minimum wage, fostering small businesses, and ensuring a fair tax system.
Healthcare: Democrats back making healthcare affordable and accessible.
Education: They advocate for quality public education and affordable college options.
Civil Rights: Protecting voting rights and promoting equality for all based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and other factors is an important priority.
Environment: The platform opposes nuclear waste storage in Nevada and supports clean energy solutions.
Firearm safety: Nevada Democrats favor policies that enhance weapon safety.
Immigration: Dems promote comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship.
Though by no means comprehensive, this list is a representative sample of the kinds of issues the Nevada State Democratic Party is focused on. The full platform can be found on the NSDP website at https://nvdems.com/
