Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble Concert at the Governor's Mansion
Don't miss this opportunity to see Tintabulations play in the state's capital. Tintabulations will be playing at the Govenor's Mansion in the Nevada room at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The concert, entitled “How The West Was Rung,” is an homage to the ensemble's Summer 2015 tour of their home state of Nevada in celebration of its Sesquicentennial, as well as a reference to their musicianship quickly becoming known in the handbell world as "west coast style."
Classical, jazz and pop tunes are all part of the concert, as well as impressive original works for bells written by some of the nation’s foremost handbell composers. Performing on 120 bells and chimes, the 15 talented musicians that comprise Tintabulations prove that bell ringing can be entertaining year round and not just at the holiday season.
Since its founding in 1996, Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble (or just “Tintab”, as the members like to refer to it) has been pushing the boundaries of traditional handbell performance and entertaining audiences around the west coast.
Barb Walsh, the group’s director and retired local music teacher, started Tintab with a handful of ambitious high school students. The group has since grown to include University of Nevada, Reno students, music teachers, working professionals from around the area, and two ringers from California.
In the past Tintab has performed the opening concert for the Handbell Musicians of America National Conference, appeared with the Reno Pops Orchestra and Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, and given concerts throughout Nevada, California, Oregon, Hawaii, and at Disneyland. Last summer the group traveled all the way to North Carolina and Virginia, and this summer they look forward to touring historical Nevada.
