Carson City Candidate Forum from the Carson City Republican Committee. All active voters in Carson City will be receiving, via postal mail, their mail-in ballot the first week of May and the Carson City Republican Committee want you to be ready for the upcoming Primary Election on June 9.

We want to offer you the ability to meet the candidates for Nevada Assembly District 40, Carson City Mayor, Supervisor for Ward 2 and 4 along with School District 7 candidates.

Our candidate forum will be moderated by Paul Strasser, Chairman of the Carson City Republican Committee and he will ask each candidate a set of questions via our VIRTUAL ZOOM meeting on each night starting at 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, April 27-30.

Everyone is invited regardless of your political affiliation. Only ACTIVE, registered republican voters may participate in the June 9th Primary but EVERYONE will be voting for the candidates during the general election on Nov. 3.

We are going to make it easier to access the Zoom meeting by using the same meeting ID for each of the evening sessions. We will mute all participants to minimize background noise BUT will allow you to chat with the candidates and ask your questions, time permitting. Dayton Elementary students were treated Friday to a helicopter fly-in by the Nevada National Guard as part of the school's Veterans Day program.

A team from Nevada National Guard landed a helicopter on the soccer field after the school's Veterans Day assembly. Dayton Elementary is the only school in Lyon County that is a Purple Star School.

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and is a federal holiday to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. A number of events are planned in Carson City and surrounding counties.

Charle Abowd, a world renowned, award-winning chef and restaurateur but even more than that a philanthropist and community fixture for decades, died Saturday evening, according to longtime friends.

Abowd, 73, was a pioneer in farm to table dining, along with his wife Karen who co-owned Cafe at Adele's, he was a champion and supporter of music and the arts. He was a man who dedicated himself to lifting up others.

Supervisors approved allocating Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to the Mills Park Pickleball Courts Project.

The Carson Middle School annual Veteran's Day Concert was briefly interrupted by a fire alarm this morning, but there was no fire and all students and community members are safe, according to the district.

"Carson Middle School had a fire alarm sound today during the Veteran’s Day concert. All students, staff and visitors were evacuated safely. There was not a fire. The fire department responded and gave the all-clear to re-enter the building. The school resumed the school day."

UPDATE 11:50 a.m.: On November 7, 2024, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputies responded to the 1200 block of Pit Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos for a report of domestic assault involving a firearm. The caller informed Douglas County Emergency Communications that her son, identified as John Brown, had allegedly assaulted her with a handgun and then fled on foot.

The intervention is a Tier 2 approach in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for schools to address and support attendance and academic success in school.
