A pre-opening ribbon cutting was held by the Carson City Chamber on Tuesday, Jan. 19 to herald the grand opening of Carson City’s Chick-fil-A located at 4751 Cochise just off S. Carson Street turning on W. Appion Way and left on Cochise.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

There can be no doubt, the Founding Fathers were among the elite of a young nation. At the time many were exceptional and provocative intellectuals by the standard of their era. However brilliant as they were, the Founders were not motivated to be historically recast as secular saints.
Some people choose to run for public office because they feel slighted by their incumbent opponent of local government and seek to stick it to incumbency.

Our meeting is held at the Carson City Casino Fandango with registration at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at 7 p.m. The first 50 are allowed. You can also attend virtually by registering here.

The Carson City Republican Women's Club will hear candidate for Carson City Supervisor Maurice White at their upcoming luncheon meeting.The meeting will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Casino Fandango commencing at 11 a.m.

A Meet and Greet with Carson City Board of Supervisors Candidate Maurice "Mo" White will be held this Saturday, Sept. 12, beginning at 4 p.m.

Special guest Jon Yuspa, Founder of Honor Flight Nevada will also be in attendance.

The deceitful thing about words is that they can have multiple meanings. Words take on connotations because of the way people use them. In that sense, yes, a “constitutionalist” could be considered anyone who advocates the defense and protection of the American Constitution.

In the pleasantly warm evening air under the trees this past Wednesday, Maurice White, candidate for Carson City supervisor for Ward 2, held a meet and greet at Glen Eagles Restaurant on North Carson Street, and talked to an attentive and respectful audience of about 35-40 people.



It is my honor and pleasure to offer this endorsement of Maurice White for Carson City Supervisor, Ward 2. It takes only a moment talking with him to realize that Mo has outstanding qualifications for this office. He is passionate about Carson City, and he is very knowledgeable of local issues, down to the minutest details. He has the patience and friendly disposition to discuss them to any depth of understanding that you would care to tolerate. And he’s equally able to discuss them at the policy and philosophical level, if that’s your preference.

The Carson City Republican committee held a Candidate Forum last week and recorded the virtual sessions with each of the candidates. The primary ballots are out and please watch / listen to each candidate that will allow you to make an informed choice.

Maurice "Mo" White candidate for Supervisor Ward 2 will be hosting a town hall meeting via Zoom on Friday,  April 10, 2020, at 2:00PM.  All residents of Carson City are invited to discuss your thoughts and concerns regarding Carson City issues.  This meeting has a maximum of 100 participants so please sign in early to get your spot.  Be sure to write down the meeting ID and password.

Now that the filing period for political candidates is over it is time for voters to consider the qualifications and politics of the filed candidates. What sort of person do you want representing you in the various seats that are up for election this cycle?

It's Friday everyone, and while it means the end of the work week for many of you, it is also the end of the filing period for our electable local offices! As of Friday at 5 p.m., 14 candidates have filed to run for the offices of School District Trustee, Mayor, and Board of Supervisors.

In Carson City, there are currently 33,851 registered voters, with about 14,000 registered Republican, about 10,000 registered Democrat, and 9,000 registered non-partisan.

All upcoming election seats are non-partisan.

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will premiere in Carson City on April 11 at the Galaxy Fandango Theaters with the first showing at 7 p.m.

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will be hitting select theaters March 15.

Eugene Hoover, Republican candidate for Nevada Lieutenant Governor, is hosting a meet and greet at Glen Eagles restaurant in Carson City on Wednesday, May 2.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson Street, is a downtown staple for anyone with kids. The following are 100 percent of the votes counted: combined absentee, early voting, Carson City Courthouse election day results and the full list from the Carson City Community Center from tonight. Total voter count is 25,061. Carson City Clerk Sue Merriwether reports 91.79 percent of the registered voters turned out to vote.

Thank you all who have voted for new representation for Supervisor, Ward 2. If you haven’t yet voted I hope you will carefully consider your options. I will bring a diverse blue collar point of view that will help our Board of Supervisors make better decisions.

I understand our City’s issues. We are not meeting our obligation to provide the basic life and safety services our residents expect and deserve. Our Sheriff and Fire Chief have issued statements expressing their concerns. Various department leaders have remarked about insufficient budgeting.

Dear Editor,I see from the ad in the Nevada Appeal, that Crowell, Bonkowski and Barrette have finally declared themselves a slate. They say they are for preservation of property rights. Not those of existing Carsonites but only those of absentee developers.

They say they are for protection of home ownership. Not the protection of existing home owners, but for future Californicators with big bucks.
