Eastern Sierra history program features 'Into the Jaws of Hell' at Death Valley

On Sunday April 2 at 1 p.m., Sorenson’s Resort (formerly Wylder Resort Hope Valley) continues its history series with a 50-minute presentation, “Into the Jaws of Hell.”

Local historian David Woodruff recounts the dramatic and heroic tale of how forlorn and desperate argonauts found demise in the desert while searching for a shortcut to the California goldfields, and christened the chilling name upon their fatal location, Death Valley.

Swimmers (or splashers) of all ages are welcome to play, with egg hunts in both the tot pools and the shallow end of the large pool, with multiple sessions throughout the day.

Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space seeks volunteers to take down festival lights

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space in removing the festive holiday lights from Homestead Lights this coming Thursday at Silver Saddle Ranch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. With all of the winter storms we have had, CCPROS has been unable to take the lights down. Girls on the Run Sierras to Launch Camp GOTR in Carson City

Girls on the Run Sierras is a local social emotional learning program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. We teach lessons about the importance of friendship, kindness and emotional intelligence, while creatively integrating physical activity.

Camp GOTR is coming to Carson City August 7-11 for girls ages 8-12. This will be a half day from 8am to noon.
