Nevada’s Department of Motor Vehicles has made temporary vehicle tags more secure and less vulnerable to fraud, officials announced this week.

“Our new dealer placards are web-based and computer generated,” said DMV Director Troy Dillard. “The new tag can be quickly verified by law enforcement and has both overt and covert security features that will make it harder to counterfeit or tamper with these tags.”

Hello fellow anglers, I am here to say that winter fishing has officially begun. Last Monday, my friend Jerry Dow from Carson City joined me for some ice fishing at Red Lake. We arrived about 10am to a cleared parking area behind the dam. There was approximately a foot of snow on the dam, which makes it much easier to pull your sled on.

Man-made Wonder is the follow up to the Mike Thomas’ "Natural Wonders" lecture series. It arrives at the Plaza Hotel and Event Center in Carson City on Friday, Jan. 9. This free lecture is filled with many beautiful images of amazing works of architecture found around the globe.

In the early morning hours of January 2, 2015 Verl passed away, peacefully of natural causes, while residing at the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carson City, NV. He was 100 years old.

Verl was born on November 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, one of three children born to Howard and Janie May Means.

Restaurant and food service inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. The six inspections listed here were made from Dec. 30, 2014 to Jan. 7, 2015.

Neil Andresen, 60, of Moundhouse who was reported missing by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Wednesday, has been located and is safe, authorities said Thursday.
He was reported missing after not being seen or heard by family and friends since Dec. 9 when he was presumably on his way to Carson City from Moundhouse.

The Division of Child and Family Services will hold foster/adoptive parent training on Jan. 17, Jan.18 and Jan. 24 in Carson City. Each day runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Training sessions will be held at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Valley View Room, 3rd Floor, at 1600 Medical Parkway, Carson City.

The training curriculum utilized is P.R.I.D.E. (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education) and consists of nine three-hour sessions designed to educate and equip applicants to provide foster and/or adoptive care to children in the child welfare system.

Carson City Public Works Director Darren Schulz announced Wednesday that after reviewing proposals and finalist presentations, a city review and selection committee has selected Lumos & Associates to lead the Downtown Carson Street Urban Design Project.

The committee will enter into contract negotiations for a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors will then approve, disapprove or modify the contract. The contract is anticipated to begin February 5, 2015.

The principal owners of the building that once housed Sassafras restaurant in downtown Carson City have asked a commercial real estate company to help them find a new restaurant to lease the space at 318 North Carson Street.

The realtor, Jack Brower, said Wednesday that he didn’t know anything about what happened to the tenant that was supposed to go in. He said he was recently asked by the building’s owners to find a new tenant.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help regarding the disappearance of Neil Gene Andresen, also known as "Geno" a Moundhouse man who was last seen leaving his home Dec. 9 and was presumably headed for Carson City.

The Carson Senators boys team battled it out hoop style against the North Valleys Panthers Tuesday coming up with a win.

The game began with a relatively slow start from both sides and then Carson exploded going up 12-4 with 1:23 left, but North Valleys caught up slightly to 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Five people were reportedly injured following an accident this morning at North Carson and Fleischmann. The injuries appear to be non life-threatening, according to emergency personnel on scene via dispatch, with the victims to be taken by ground ambulance to the hospital.

The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles. The accident has caused motorist delays, with traffic being diverted onto Park as ambulances arrived on scene.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection (Commission) announced that it will accept applications for three open judicial positions until 5 p.m. January 28, 2015. Lake Tahoe's Northstar California will open this winter’s first halfpipe to skiers and riders this coming Friday, Jan. 9, resort officials announced Tuesday.

Located on Pipeline trail and accessible via Vista Express, the halfpipe is a popular and highly-anticipated feature among Northstar’s terrain park users. Its addition allows for a contiguous, uninterrupted terrain park descent from the top of Pinball Park, which currently offers guests access to 46 features, into the Pipeline Park, which hosts the halfpipe.

A 28-year-old Reno man was arrested Monday in the 1300 block of Ladera Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after he allegedly punched his girlfriend’s father in the face when he was told to leave the woman alone, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, the man was at the Ladera residence and asked to leave by his girlfriend. When he refused to leave, saying he was going to gather his belongings, the girlfriend called her parents.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the passenger who died in a New Year's Day crash on Mt. Rose Highway east of Incline Village in which the driver fled and was later found hiding.

The Nevada Humane Society says 1,322 dogs, cats and small animals went home during the Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive. The number surpasses the goal of 1,000 animals as well as the 2013 adoption numbers, 1006 animals, for the event.
