Guided hikes Sunday and Jan. 25 at Washoe Lake State Park
If your New Year’s resolution is to get out and hike more, you’re in luck. Washoe Lake State Park has two ranger-led hikes scheduled in January.
The park is a popular area with beautiful views of the nearby Sierra Nevada, Carson and Virginia Mountain Ranges. Don’t forget to pick up a Passport booklet. The Passport booklet serves as a travel aid for park visitors. It includes photos, a description of each park, and spaces for validation stamps, designed to reflect each unique state park. Once passport holders have their booklets stamped at 15 different parks, they will earn one free annual pass to Nevada State Parks. Go here to learn more about the Passport.
Deadman’s Creek Guided Hike
This is a one-mile round-trip hike to the gazebo at the top of Deadman’s Creek. Please dress warmly and bring a hat, coat, gloves and good walking shoes for this moderately easy hike. We will talk about the park and cover a brief history of the Washoe Valley.
WHEN: Sunday, January 11, at 1 p.m.
WHERE: Meet at the Overflow parking lot - after entering the park, turn left, and it is the first parking lot on the right
CONTACT: (775) 687-4319 or e-mail washoelake@hdiss.net for more information.
Dune Trek and Beach Stroll

Participants should wear good walking/hiking shoes, as the trail will be sandy or snow-covered in some areas. We will be looking at a variety of plants and wildlife. The Dune Trek Trail offers some great views of Washoe Valley and Slide Mountain.
WHEN: Sunday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m.
WHERE: Meet at the equestrian parking area – after entering the park, turn right, pass the campground, and it is the gravel parking lot next to the pavilion
CONTACT: (775) 867-4319 or washoelake@hdiss.net for more information.
These hikes are free of cost; however, there is an entrance fee of $7.00 per vehicle. Nevada residents receive a $2.00 discount. Events and hikes are subject to change due to weather and staffing.
