A joint meeting Tuesday between the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Open Space Commission voted on new dog ordinances, including allowing dogs at some previously prohibited areas, prohibiting off-leash dogs from certain trails and open space areas, and regulating where off-leash dogs can recreate.

Donor Network West hosted a special remembrance event to honor the legacy of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hammond, which gathered family, friends and caregivers at Fianna’s Healing Garden at Renown Regional Medical Center.

A very large bear was seen Tuesday morning running around the Arrowhead, Bowers and Sunrise area of Carson City. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has been notified. Residents should leave the bear alone, bring their children and pets indoors and not get anywhere near him or her.

Bear sightings are unusual along the east side of Carson City and usually are far more common on the west side.

A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

UPDATE: The suspect, Jason Day, 48, was arrested for grand theft auto and two counts each of kidnapping and child endangerment. According to KOLO, when Day’s vehicle was stopped he told officers he left the children in the back at the nearby Holiday Inn Express.

Two women were arrested Sunday for suspicion of battery and obstruction after a waitress at a restaurant inside a south Carson Street casino was slapped in the face, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

ALPINE COUNTY — It has been nearly two weeks since heavy rain fell over the Tamarack burn scar, causing a mountain of mud and debris to move through the town of Markleeville and creating a large hole under SR-89, closing the main artery for vehicle travel.

Truckee Meadows Fire reports via Twitter Sunday evening that a brush fire, dubbed the Joy Lake Fire, is spreading and has burned 3 acres with multiple structures threatened in the southern portion of Galena Forest.

Another monsoon moisture surge will bring a return of thunderstorms to the Carson City, western Nevada and Sierra front region this week, with the potential for flash flooding, new fire starts and strong outflow winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Milkweed is the host plant for monarch butterflies. It is the only plant on which they lay eggs and it is the sole food source for their larval form/caterpillars.

A community workout and Open House to showcase our newly expanded training facility.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

We have opened the 2022-2023 youth bowling sign-ups for all three locations: Carson Lanes Family Fun Center, Gold Dust West and Wink's Silver Strikes. Bowling will start on September 10 at all three houses.

Bowling is open to all abilities and ages 3-18* (*age as of August 1)
