Carson City area weather: More unsettled wintery weather on the way for valley and Sierra
Two storms systems, one Wednesday and the other to arrive late Friday, are forecast to bring valley rain and Sierra snow to the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow will spread into the eastern Sierra late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and then into the Tahoe Basin and western Nevada Wednesday afternoon. The weather service says there's "high confidence" for several inches of snow accumulation above 5,000 feet across Mono, Mineral, and southern Lyon counties.
Light snow may spread as far north as the I-80 corridor during the day and possibly impact the Wednesday evening commute.
A stronger storm is forecast to arrive Friday afternoon and continue over the weekend. This storm will bring another round of heavy wet snow to the high Sierra and rain for the lower elevations.
As snow levels fall late Saturday afternoon into Sunday, some snow accumulation is possible for northeast California and foothills locations as well. If you have plans to travel through the Sierra this weekend, make sure to watch the weather forecast closely.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning for the greater Lake Tahoe area.
