Waste Management announces an expected pricing change in Carson City trash service that went into effect this month and issues a correction for a misprint on the most recent bill.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is requesting congressional leaders axe a last-minute provision, slipped into a defense authorization bill last week, that would give the Air Force the final say over how more than 800,000 acres of protected land are managed at a wildlife refuge outside of Las Vegas.

According to crime data published by Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, Carson City’s overall crime had a 6 percent decline between 2018 and 2019.

“That’s great news, since those were both extremely successful years for the community,” said Furlong.

Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered the first major rollback of the state’s business reopening plan amid the COVID-19 pandemic by ordering bar closures in counties with spiking caseloads and limiting restaurant dining to parties of no more than six people.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting 11 new positive cases and 21 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region on Thursday, July 9, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 423, with 292 recoveries and eight deaths, 123 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY — The Western Nevada Development District, which assists communities in public and private partnerships, has been awarded $400,000 in CARES Act Recovery assistance to help respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and drive economic development planning going forward.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Due to a recent spike in COVID-19 cases and a significant increase in visitation to the Lake Tahoe Basin over the last few weeks, the City of South Lake Tahoe has made the decision to close its boat ramp at El Dorado Beach to re-assess their operations there.

The Carson City Photo Club has announced the winning first and second place photos and three photos tied for third-place ties in its monthly photography contest. The theme addressed in June by the club was "Wildlife."

Highway 395 south of Gardnerville has been cleared by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and is now safe for motorists to travel.

Lyon County Emergency Management has been notified by the Smith Valley Fire Protection District that there is a possibility that the Numbers Fire could spread to Lyon County in the Smith Valley, Wellington area.

Despite COVID-19 keeping many from Tahoe beaches this season, somehow it didn’t seem to stop the trash from accumulating, but it also didn’t stop Keep Tahoe Blue volunteers from holding their annual beach cleanup.

According to the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s Communications Manager Chris Joseph, the beach clean up kept things smaller this year to make sure social distancing practices were upheld for the safety of volunteers.

A 29-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning for alleged drug related offenses, including possession with intent to sell narcotics, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and state public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Ben Jenkins, whose funeral is being held today in Elko.

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:32 a.m. for a misdemeanor warrant issued May 31, 2020 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $5,000.

UPDATE: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports Wednesday that the #NumbersFire southeast of Gardnerville has grown to 20,500 acres. The Bureau of Land Management reports a lower figure, 18,000 acres, with 5 percent containment. The recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pineview areas have been lifted. Only residents are allowed to these areas.

UPDATE 3:40PM From Douglas County: The Numbers Fire is 0 percent contained and the fire is estimated to be at 10,000 acres as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the county's Facebook page. Multiple local, state and federal fire agencies are assisting and there are numerous fire apparatus and firefighters working on the scene.

Equipment on scene includes dozers, handcrews and aircraft. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. No injuries have been reported at this time. The Carson Valley Inn and the Holiday Inn Express are serving as evacuation sites. The fire is on Washoe tribe land south of Gardnerville, continues to put up dense smoke. The fire has burned at least 1 home and 10 outbuildings.

Smoke and haze from the Numbers Fire burning south of Gardnerville will be apparent Tuesday throughout much of the Carson Valley and surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: Firefighters have been able to get a handle on the brush fire. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday shortly before 10 p.m. to a report of a brush fire burning in a field near Fremont Elementary School.

UPDATE 6:18AM Tuesday: KOLO reports the fire grew overnight to more than 5,000 acres with one home and 10 outbuildings burned and 350 homes threatened. Highway 395 remains closed.

Steve Sisolak has released a proposal ahead of a special legislative session slated to begin Wednesday in Carson City that would slash and shift hundreds of millions of dollars from agency budgets and other programs to close an estimated $1.2 billion shortfall caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
