Carson City to Provide Funding Assistance to Nonprofits

In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) the U.S. Department of Treasury has allocated funding under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act, Public Law 116-136, which was signed on March 27, 2020) to reimburse local governments for expenses incurred in responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, July 21, 2020 an additional death due COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual is a female Carson City resident in her 60’s with underlying health conditions.

UPDATE 5:30PM: A brush unit from Carson City Fire Department, called for a mutual assist in Douglas County, has been called back to quarters as East Fork Fire Protection District indicates it may have a handle on the lightning sparked wildfires earlier. Volunteer fire engines in the East Fork Fire Protection District were also released. East Fork and BLM brush units remain in fire start areas.

Mills Park Pickleball Courts

We are proud to announce the first phase of the Mills Park Pickleball Court conversion project in Carson City is completed. As of Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the courts are open to the public.

This phase consists of four dedicated pickleball courts with permanent nets, installed on the westernmost of the two asphalt-base tennis courts.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, July 20, 2020 that there are 12 new positive cases and 19 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 525, with 379 recoveries and eight deaths, 138 cases remain active.

Recently installed at the northeastern corner of Jackson’s gas station and food store at the intersection of William and Carson streets is a new piece of art commissioned by the Carson City Cultural Commission as part of the new zoning regulations in the downtown mixed use areas that can choose to feature art, a patio or a park.

As it has been over the past few days, showers and thunderstorms have developed Monday afternoon over the Sierra, with an increased chance of storms expected to impact much of the region though the evening, according to the National Weather Service. The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 14 and July 16 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ranch and Lake courses. Thirty members competed in the two-day net tournament. Jeri Mihelic won the tournament with a net score of 142. Gail Teig was the runner-up with a score of 143 and Terri Ianiro was the 3rd place winner with a score of 147.
