Carson City to see economic boost with special legislative session
A special session of the Nevada State Legislature begins tomorrow, Wednesday July 8 as lawmakers decide what to do with the state's budget during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Legislative session has always been a major boost to Carson City's economy, with local businesses such as restaurants and hotels receiving many positive economic impacts.
This year, there's no telling how long the special session may last, but the longer it runs, the better our local economy will be for it.
According to Carson City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ronni Hannaman, reservations to our local hotels are already trickling in.
However, said Hannaman, since lobbyists are not allowed in the legislature it's unknown whether or not they will be in town along with lawmakers. Many lobbying firms have Reno offices, she said.
"I think this will be an intensive session with most of the focus on making decisions on how to get through the year," said Hannaman. "I think there will be long hours to solve some of the fiscal problems now being faced."
Some special sessions can be as short as one day; however, with as much work that needs to go into the budget, it's anyone's guess how long this special session will last.
