Drift smoke from Hog Fire west of Susanville lingers into Sierra, western Nevada skies
If the air seems thicker around the Carson City region Monday, that's due to a fire burning well to the north of us, west of Susanville, in which the linger of the smoke has drifted south.
Smoke impacts and poor air quality will be largely near Susanville and Lake Almanor due to the Hog Fire, however smoke may transport into the Reno vicinity, the Lake Tahoe Basin and portions of western Nevada at times Monday.
The National Weather Service advises people to stay indoors as much as possible when smoke is present and to consider rescheduling outdoor activities.
For the latest air quality readings, see quality http://airnow.gov.
As of Monday morning the Hog Fire had burned 5,800 acres and was zero percent contained.
Meanwhile, isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms later Monday are expected to increase in coverage and possibly intensity heading into Tuesday and Wednesday as low pressure nears the West Coast.
Coverage of showers and thunderstorms should decrease late week. Winds will remain light this week except for afternoon zephyr breezes and any outflow winds from thunderstorms.
