The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has awarded funding to seven critical transportation projects across the Tahoe Region that will reduce congestion, expand regional trails, provide free transit, support sustainable recreation and tourism, assist with Caldor Fire recovery work, improve lake clarity, and create climate resiliency, the agency announced Monday.

The Carson City School District School Board meeting is Tuesday Sept. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert "Bob" Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center. Among the items up for discussion include a restorative discipline plan, policy changes and the search for a new superintendent.

On the Planning Commission's agenda on 9/29 at 5 PM is a proposal to locate a slaughterhouse across the street from our neighborhood -- within sight of our kids' school bus stop, 900 feet from the Villa Sierra Mobile Home Park, and 1,056 feet from the Morgan Mill Road recreational area. Whoa! We’re a-OK with the facility, it’s the location that totally sucks -- it just doesn't seem right to us to have this kind of business in town. We have concerns.

CARSON CITY — Tuesday, the Communication Access Services program of the Aging and Disability Services Division of the Department of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that services for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Speech Impaired individuals in Nevada are transitioning to new community partners starting October 1, 2021.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been receiving reports of check fraud scams related to social media outlets like Facebook and Instagram.

Several reports have been received from social media users who receive friend or follower requests from someone they believe they know. The suspects then sent messages asking for help cashing a check due to not having a bank account or other various excuses.

The USGS reports a magnitude 3.8 earthquake 9.9 miles south of Topaz Lake that happened at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Nevada Seismological Lab reports the earthquake registered a 3.9 magnitude. It was followed by a 2.1 magnitude at 8:14 a.m.

UPDATE: NV Energy de-energized 35 customers overnight in the Carson-Minden zone based on weather conditions. Power to this group is expected to be restored by about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The PSOM event has been cancelled for the remaining customers in the Carson-Minden and Kingsbury zones (about 565 customers.)

NV Energy continues to monitor fire weather conditions and a Public Safety Outage Management event is now highly likely for the PSOM zones of Kingsbury and Carson-Minden area on Monday, September 27 starting between 3 and 6 p.m. and ending on Tuesday, September 28 at approximately 4 p.m. This outage will impact approximately 600 customers.

Carson City Health and Human Services is working with the Carson City School District to offer qualifying children COVID-19 and flu vaccinations free of charge next Saturday, Oct. 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Carson High School. Two were arrested and booked for multiple drug charges after a search warrant was issued earlier this month at a Carson City residence, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Gusty winds and low humidity have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag fire weather warning Monday into early Tuesday for Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon and Washoe counties and much of the Sierra Front. Retired Nevada Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Robert T. Herbert, who rose through the organization’s ranks as an aviator and served as long-time senior policy advisor for Sen. Harry Reid, died suddenly Friday. He was 64.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Herbert was killed Friday in a car crash.

The Friends of the Nevada State Museum continue to support the Museum and its mission to serve the community and state. At the Sept. 7 Friends of the Nevada State Museum meeting the membership approved the purchase of a Polaris ATV that will be donated to the Museum. The ATV will include a snowplow attachment, winch, and trailer ball and will be used by facility staff.

Carson High School is currently celebrating the school’s 150th anniversary with events for Homecoming week, including “Wednesday Night Live,” a local, student-led version of Saturday Night Live.
