Carson City arrests: Suspect allegedly hits man with bat during fight

A 55-year-old man was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Charles Lewis Fortner was taken into custody at 7:44 p.m. in the 2700 block of South Carson Street following a fight in which the suspect allegedly struck a man with a bat.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a motel for a battery and made contact with a man, later identified as suspect, and his wife. Both had visible injuries to their face, the report states.
The other person involved in the physical altercation had left the scene prior to CCSO's arrival. Fortner told deputies he saw an unknown man arguing with his wife and daughter from the other side of a fence that separates two motels, the report states.
The suspect told a deputy investigating the incident that he saw the unknown male walk around the fence and advance toward him with a knife in his hand. He further told the deputy that that male was taking out the knife and putting it back upon approach.
The suspect said that he swung at the male and hit him with the bat. He then said that at some point they dropped their weapons and continued to fight without weapons. Once his wife started to call 911 the unknown male jumped into a white car and drove off north onto Carson Street, the report states.
A deputy located the unknown male, who had a large laceration on his head, sitting in a vehicle near Ann and Curry Street. The victim told the deputy that he approached the suspect after the argument through the fence and advised that once he got close to Fortner, he was struck in the head with a bat, and stated that once he hit the ground, he pulled out his knife in self defense, the report states.
Both the suspect and the man stated they that they continued to fight without weapons and that Fortner's wife called 911. The victim was taken to the hospital. The suspect was arrested for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon. Bail: $30,000.
In other arrests:
— A 58-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony burglary and destruction of property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Gina Lacascia was taken into custody at 9:17 p.m. According to the booking report, deputies were called to residence regarding a possible burglary. Dispatch advised the reporting party (RP) had called advising that an ex-tenant, identified as Lacascia, was inside the residence. The woman had moved out one month prior.
The RP had reportedly confronted the suspect in the hall way of the residence. Deputies arrived and were directed inside the residence where the RP was recording the suspect with his phone. The woman was standing inside the residence talking on the phone.
The deputy could hear someone on her phone telling her to leave the house. The deputy detained the woman and advised her of her Miranda rights. She said she understood them. The officer asked why she was inside the house.
The woman said she had gone inside to take pictures of the residence to prove that the RP had charged her too much money for rent. She stated she had moved out one month prior and no longer resided at the residence.
The officer observed the woman was highly intoxicated; her speech was thick, heavy and slurred. She swayed as she moved and the deputy could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her person, the report states.
The deputy then spoke with the RP who advise they came home from dinner to find the woman's vehicle in their driveway. The RP entered the home and found the suspect had used a key that she still had possession of to unlock the back door of the residence. The RP had used a bungee cord to secure the door because they were fearful the woman would come back as she had not returned the key, according to the report.
The woman had used a black plastic knife to cut the bungee and make entry into the residence. While inside, the woman allegedly destroyed a chandelier worth $7,000, a cutting board worth $75, some curtain rods worth $100 and the bungee, which was worth $5, the arrest report states.
The deputy asked the woman if she had cut the bungee cord to get in. The woman said yes. She said she used her phone to take photos of the house. The deputy seized the phone as evidence. She provided the keys she used to enter the house and she confirmed they were the keys she used.
Based on the woman entering the residence in which she did not reside and allegedly destroying property valued at more than $7,000, she was placed under arrest for suspicion of burglary and felony destruction of property. During a search, officers found pieces of the chandelier on her person. She also admitted to stealing the pieces to use as earrings, the arrest report states. Bail: $30,000.
— A 37-year-old Stockton, Calif., man was arrested Sept. 25 in the area of Imus and Arrowhead streets for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, unsafe lane change, basic speeding and passing on the right.
According to the arrest report, the motorcycle rider was stopped by the CCSO Undersheriff for passing vehicles on the right shoulder and traveling in excess of 95 mph in a 65 mph zone northbound on IR-580 from US 50.
The motorcycle continued northbound and made several unsafe lane changes and a very sudden change off of IR-580 down the Arrowhead offramp. The motorcycle continued onto Imus from Arrowhead, nearly falling over and crashing before coming to rest, according to the arrest report.
An officer spoke with the rider and could smell an odor of alcohol on his breath. He advised he would submit to standardized field sobriety tests and showed clues of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .148 and was arrested. Bail: $1,817.
— A 34-year-old Dayton man was arrested Sept. 25 for a misdemeanor bench warrant issued August 26 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 33-year-old man was arrested Sept. 24 for misdemeanor violation of a protection order and violation of probation. Bail: $6,137 cash.
