Pets of the Homeless founder featured on Carson City's KNVC 'My Soul University Radio Hour'
Have you ever thought about how many times one small idea or action can lead to something that makes a huge impact on someone’s life? That’s what happened to Genevieve Frederick.
While visiting New York, the Carson City resident spotted a homeless person with his dog. She wondered how he ended up in that situation and how he cared for his dog. Once home, she began researching and found that the number of pets being cared for by homeless people is staggering.
“I had one of those ‘ah ha’ moments. I realized I could do something for those pets,” Frederick said. “Those animals might be the only companion a person has and I wanted to help them.” Her revelation led to what is now the non-profit called “Pets of the Homeless.” The program, which started in Carson City, and has spread nationally, provides food and emergency veterinary care to those in need.
You can hear more about Frederick’s story on this week’s edition of My Soul University Radio Hour, Sunday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. on KNVC 95.1 or live streaming at KNVC.org. Frederick will join host Kitty McKay and moderator Ken Farley to share her inspiring story.
McKay hopes the show moves listeners to act on their own ideas. “Each of us can do something to positively impact another person’s life. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture to make a difference,” she said. “Some gestures evolve into something bigger, like Genevieve’s, yet there are countless examples of how even a small act of kindness can safe someone’s life. The really cool part is that when we extend ourselves on behalf of another person, we find purpose and fulfillment along the way.”
The show will be posted on the station’s website, KNVC.org.
