While many skiers, snowboarders and winter recreation enthusiasts are excited about the recent dumping of snow across the Sierra, one draw back is the increased potential for avalanche.

There is considerable avalanche danger above and near the treeline, and moderate avalanche danger below the treeline.

It's been raining and snowing a lot in western Nevada and while everyone can appreciate the value of water in the spring and summer, it's been a helluva ride.

In December 2018, I moved out to the Dayton Valley Road ranchos, a beautiful rural residential area that lies between the magnificent Pine Nut mountains to the south and the vibrant Carson River to the north.

Two women were arrested Jan. 5 for alleged child neglect/endangerment and drug offenses following a felony traffic stop for parental abduction, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Wednesday will bring a few rain and snow showers around Carson City and surrounding areas, with a brief precipitation break Thursday and Friday before another potent storm system will move into the region by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: US-395 southbound between Mammoth Lakes and Bishop is now open to vehicle traffic. R2 chain control restrictions are in place. Northbound to Mammoth will open at noon.

Caltrans crews will continue working throughout the day and into the night removing snow from US 395. With a break in the storms, progress is being made in the hardest hit areas of Crestview and Conway Summit.

Johanna (Joey) Packwood is an 18 year old firebrand conservative. She was raised here in Carson City and attended Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. Joey has worked on many campaigns including Captain Sam Brown's Senate campaign. She was also the representative for Northern Nevada at the Leadership Institute campaign college. Joey remains active in local politics with the intent to save America!

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place tonight, Tuesday Jan. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

CARSON CITY — Due to the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety reporting severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions, Governor Joe Lombardo has ordered an early closing for all state government offices in Washoe, Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties Tuesday.

All 23 families have officially been barred from entering their apartments at Carson Pines in Carson City after they learned the upper floors of the buildings were being condemned by the city.

The Carson City Senior Center is open today, Tuesday, with normal hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center will serve lunch in the on-site dining room from 11-12:30 p.m. We recommend staying home if you do not need to go out or delay until conditions have improved however we are open in case you need a warm meal or services.

I agree wholeheartedly with current complaints about smow removal/abatement in Carson City.

The ordinances are apparently not being enforced.I know this the Wild West but come on man. The city needs to enforce these ordinances on clearing sidewalks.I am originally from Green Bay Wisconsin, and if you do not get your sidewalk sholved whether business or private the city would clear it for you at like 1 a foot.

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners’ meeting schedule for 10 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in Minden have been canceled due to inclement weather and dangerous traveling conditions. Agenda items for this meeting will be rescheduled for a later date and time to be announced.

Western Nevada College officials have decided to close its three campuses and the Child Development Center today, Jan. 10, because of snow and icy conditions. However, the college’s online winter session classes will proceed as scheduled.

With snow levels falling to the valley floor Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas, while Lake Tahoe and Sierra are under a Winter Storm Warning.

As a result of the winter storm disrupting travel throughout the region, all Carson City School District schools will observe a delayed 2-hour schedule Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023. Buses will also operate on a 2-hour delay, so arrival times will be approximately 2-hours later than usual. There will be no Pre-School classes or breakfast served at school.

A powerful, potent atmospheric river storm is making its way into western Nevada, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Advisory until 1:45 p.m. Monday due to the threat of urban and small stream flooding in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe counties.

YERINGTON — On Monday, January 9, 2023, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners met to issue a Declaration of Emergency for the ongoing winter weather events impacting the community. An Emergency Declaration gives governments the flexibility to quickly request resources necessary to respond to protect the health and safety of residents.

Two men were arrested late Saturday for suspicion of drug possession with intent to sell after fentanyl and methamphetamine were found during a vehicle search, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team.

Citing recent storms and supply chain issues causing delayed delivery in the Silver State, Gov. Joe Lombardo issued a proclamation late Friday declaring a liquid petroleum gas delivery emergency in Nevada.

On Sunday morning I stopped by Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City to see what the prospects of golf might be this week. It was still covered in snow but the temperature was warming so there is still hope for the end of the week.
