SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites you to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. Tours begin at Tamarack Lodge, at the top of the Heavenly Gondola every Friday at 1 p.m. The tours last approximately one-hour and continue through March 27, 2020, weather permitting.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to the 2100 block of East William Street for a vehicle crash.

Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.

CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

NV Energy reports power outages late Tuesday morning affecting nearly 300 customers around Carson City. An outage was reported in the West Winnie Lane area around at around 10:35 p.m. affecting 271 customers. At around the time of the outage Carson City dispatch reported that a tree limb was down in the area.

Jake Sullivan Roman, 20, of Carson City, Nev., died tragically on Jan. 18, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobiling accident. He was born on Jan. 20, 1999 in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., the son of Blair and Susan Roman. He was a 2017 graduate of Carson High School and was currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Pizza Factory on Highway 50 in Carson City will hold a Feb. 4 fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with 20 percent of sales being donated to the Roman family to help with finances during this extreme loss.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. A rescue at sea is always riveting, but the 2020 New Year's Eve Rescue gave me chicken skin all over. In full disclosure I have not ventured out to sea since our honeymoon when my wife did most of the fishing and I did most of the crabbing. Unless standing on shore, anchored in sand, I have no love for the sea. To me a sea cruise is being under house arrest, but with a chance of "drownding."

UPDATE 12:30PM: According to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief, three people were transported to the hospital. One person was flown by Care Flight and two others were taken by ground ambulance to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. The eastbound lane of Highway 50 was reopened at 12:30 p.m. The westbound lane remains closed. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called late Monday morning to a crash involving multiple vehicles in the 5000 block of Highway 50 East.

UPDATE: This matter is under investigation. According to NHP a man was on an ATV and for an unknown reason he was dismounted from the ATV and struck by two vehicles. The drivers of the two vehicles pulled over. NHP is investigating that the ATV driver was initially hit earlier by a vehicle, that fled the scene and that the victim was hit again by the two other vehicles (which then stopped.) We will update as more information becomes available.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting a pedestrian fatality that happened Sunday night in the area of Highway 50 and Mark Twain Avenue in Dayton.

An NHP spokeswoman said the rider of an ATV had dismounted from the vehicle and was in a travel lane when he was struck by two vehicles.
