Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting 130 recoveries and 30 new cases of COVID-19 in the Quad County area from Saturday, Feb. 20 to Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.

CARSON CITY — In celebration of National Digital Learning Day this coming Thursday, Feb. 25, students throughout the Carson City School District are showcasing their 21st century skills and advocating for the state’s continued support of technology in schools across the state. In particularly, students with the Carson High School orienteering class spent some time to learn the Catching Features software that enables them to navigate virtually as well as physically over land.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with other law enforcement agencies statewide focusing on pedestrian safety from Feb. 22 through March 8.

Aiming to connect STEM principles with shooting sports, Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program has launched a virtual workshop series that teaches youth about physics through disciplines such as archery, air pistol, muzzleloader, shotgun and rifle. This first-of-its-kind program in Nevada, was adapted from curriculums from 4-H programs in Colorado and Idaho, making the science, technology, engineering and math connection using the popular sport.

The Western Nevada College Paramedicine program celebrated the graduation of 11 paramedics at a ceremony in Carson City on Saturday.

The graduates are now eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician National Certification Test, according to WNC’s Emergency Medical Services and Paramedic Program Coordinator Terry Mendez.

Carson City officials, Nevada Day event coordinators, and Carson City's local Assemblyman have all agreed on one thing: that they are not in favor of a newly proposed bill which aims to change the observance of Nevada Day, Carson City's favorite holiday.

Due to inclement weather across the country delaying the delivery of COVID-19 vaccine to Nevada, Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is having to reschedule upcoming COVID-19 vaccination events.

There is no estimated time for when the vaccine will be delivered. CCHHS is not cancelling events or appointments; events may be rescheduled but the appointments will not be canceled so you may still receive an appointment confirmation.

Douglas County 9-1-1 Emergency Services has achieved re-accreditation of the Emergency Medical Dispatch program from the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED).

The three-year accredited period is from April 2021 to April 2024. This is the third consecutive year 9-1-1 Emergency Services has met international standards for accreditation.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021 there are 17 new cases and 8 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 11,071, with 8,663 recoveries and 203 deaths; 2,205 cases remain active.

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, its Redevelopment Authority OK'd a plan to create a budget for improvement allocations throughout Carson City including new holiday decorations, new bike racks, historic trail signage on pedestrian and bike paths, sidewalk improvements and more.

The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine has detected the first known case of probable B.1.351 South African variant in Nevada. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the variant has been detected in 10 U.S. states, to-date.
