Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe near Glenbrook in Douglas County was closed Sunday night due to a 3-vehicle crash in which one fatality was reported, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

For the week ending February 27, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 9,208, up 1,699 claims, or 22.6 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 7,509 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Through the week ending February 27, there have been a total of 868,186 initial claims filed since the week ending March 14, 2020.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a runaway juvenile. On December 14, 2020 Xavier Pierce ran away from his home in Carson City. Xavier is believed to be in the Carson City area and may be riding a red bicycle. Xavier does not have any medical problems and is not considered at risk.

Xavier is a white male juvenile. He is 17-years-old. He is approximately 5’6” and is 110 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. No clothing description.

Two Carson City motel rooms were officially condemned following a drug bust and arrest.

On 03/04/2021, at about 0830 hours, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team (SET) in collaboration with the Tri Count Gang Unit and the Nevada Department of Public Safety Investigations Division (NDI) executed a search warrant for two rooms at the Frontier Motel located at 1718 N Carson St in Carson City.

The Carson City Historical Society will present its third lecture of 2021, "Lessons From The Cemetery," on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. There's something fascinating about old cemeteries. Who WERE these long-forgotten people? What were their lives like? What were their stories? And what clues can we find on these historic headstones?

We are reporting an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region.

The individual was a female Carson City resident in her 60’s.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon a non-injury accident was reported in front of the Railroad Museum on Carson Street.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident. No injuries are reported at this time.

Motorists should use caution in the area.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is investigating reports that invasive zebra mussels have been found in aquarium products sold through online retailers and local and national pet stores in various states, including Nevada.

The products contaminated with the invasive species may be labeled as Imagitarium Betta Buddy Marimo Balls, Marimo Moss Ball Plants, or similar names, and are decorative moss plants for home aquariums.

Carson City Kiwanis hosts its annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser event virtually in 2021 due to COVID-19.

In years past, the event included attendees who enjoyed competitive games of BINGO and a pasta feed. The total amount of donations received benefit the Carson City Senior Citizens Center's Meals on Wheels Program.

This Sunday, March 7, Flatbed Concerts return with Kingwhistler cruising through the Mark Twain Elementary neighborhood between 3pm and 5pm.

Students at Mark Twain Elementary School were given a surprise from the skies in the form of several hot air balloons that alighted on school grounds for the children.

According to Shannon Cord, who has been following Karalyn Mumm’s “Citrus in the Sky” balloon for years, the school raised almost $1,900 for medical supplies for Carson Tahoe Hospital, and Mark Twain Principal Ruthlee Calojaro even went up in one of the balloons!

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday, March 4, 2021 that there are 23 new cases and 52 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 11,310, with 9,234 recoveries and 208 deaths; 1,868 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY — The first Department of Corrections offenders were vaccinated this week at facilities statewide.
“We are pleased to get this effort under way,” said Deputy Director William Quenga. “Keeping our staff and offenders healthy and safe is our top priority.”
