Curator Melissa Melero-Moose announced Wednesday she is extending the exhibition “Inheritance: Basketry and Art of the Great Basin”, at the Great Basin Native Artists Gallery, Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum, 1 Jacobsen Way, Carson City. This exhibition which opened in November 2021, will now be extended until September 30, 2022.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved Wednesday the 2022-2023 Tentative Budget. The meeting lasted three hours with Comptroller Josh Foli presenting the budget to the Board. Foli provided the Board with an Executive Summary and then addressed specific budget items for the Board to consider.

There is no firefighting or rescue helicopter assigned to the Lake Tahoe region on a dedicated, permanent basis, and Tahoe Douglas Fire Chief Scott Lindgren is trying to change that.

The Carson City Democratic Central Committee invites Carson City Democrats to the 2022 caucus and convention Saturday, 23 April, at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Precinct caucuses start at 10 a.m, and are to end by 11:30 a.m. The county convention will open at 1 p.m. and will end no later than 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, April 8, the Nevada Department of Wildlife received reports of numerous dead fish at Wildhorse Reservoir in northern Elko County. After surveying the area, NDOW biologists have confirmed that a die-off event occurred, impacting mainly yellow perch and a few channel catfish and trout.

The lake was mostly ice-covered earlier in the week on Sunday, April 3. Due to increased air temperatures and high winds, the reservoir was completely free of ice by Wednesday.

The Carson City Senior Center was recently awarded a grant from the State’s $30 million Community Recovery Grant program. This grant program, funded by American Rescue Plan dollars, aims at utilizing existing non-profits in Nevada to provide direct and immediate community services.

Another blast of winter weather in the early part of spring will continue this week around the Carson City area, Lake Tahoe and Sierra with more cold temperatures, wind and Sierra snow on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
