Carson City arrests: Man jailed after rental truck reported stolen
A 58-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle and a lesser offense, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Roger Sunderland was taken into custody at 7:21 p.m. in the 3100 block of North Carson Street. According to the booking report, deputies responded to the area for a report of a stolen vehicle that had been located.
When a deputy arrived, they met with the reporting party who advised they had reported a U-Haul vehicle had been stolen. The reporting party advised the vehicle was supposed to be returned on April 1 and said the company had attempted to contact the man who had rented the vehicle but that he had not returned it as specified in the contract, the report states.
The reporting party directed the deputy to the white 2012 Ford U-Haul in a parking lot. Dispatch advised the vehicle was reported stolen and that the suspect, Sunderland, was staying in a room.
Deputies made contact with the man, who invited them into the room. The suspect said he had rented the vehicle and had arranged through the company to have the vehicle for longer. The deputy informed the suspect that the company had reported the vehicle stolen.
Deputies observed a a butane torch on a counter top. The man said he used it for lighting cigarettes. He gave deputies permission to search the room. Officers found a meth pipe. The man said he had smoked methamphetamine three days prior and claimed the pipe wasn't his. He was arrested for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $20,000.

— A 44-year-old Carson City man, Matthew Hale, was arrested early Tuesday morning for suspicion of felony drug and weapon crimes and lesser offenses, according to a CCSO booking report.
According to the booking report, a deputy made a subject stop at around 1:22 a.m. for a man riding a bicycle without front or back illumination.
The man was wearing bulky, baggy clothing. A safety pat search of the man's person revealed brass knuckles in his right rear pants pocket. The man was detained. The deputy also located a digital scale with trace amounts of suspected methamphetamine in his front sweatshirt pocket. He was arrested.
A check through dispatch revealed the man was under Department of Alternative Sentencing supervision. DAS requested an additional hold be placed. He was booked for possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a controlled substance, both felony offenses, and misdemeanor disobedience to traffic control, DAS violation and possession of drug paraphernalia, the arrest report states.
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of pretrial supervision, driving with a revoked license for DUI and driving with suspended registration. Bail: $3,000 cash.
