Carson City Senior Center sees kitchen, dining upgrades using federal, state and local grants
The Carson City Senior Center was recently awarded a grant from the State’s $30 million Community Recovery Grant program. This grant program, funded by American Rescue Plan dollars, aims at utilizing existing non-profits in Nevada to provide direct and immediate community services.
The organization also recently received a Capital Construction grant from the Nevada Department of Aging and Disability in the amount of $718,128 to remodel the dining room.
The Senior Center recently secured grant funding for significant improvements to the dining facilities that handles 500 meals a day. Carson City Senior Center Director Courtney Warner says the collaboration of federal, state and city funding “prioritizes seniors and makes the entire project possible.”
The Community Recovery Grant was $25,000. Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak toured the facility Tuesday and helped pack boxes of food for the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.
Construction will possibly start later this year with the project goal of having it completed by June 2023.
