The Carson Chamber Singers, a performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will kick off their 38th season on Tuesday, August 2, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the LDS church, 411 N Saliman Road in Carson City. A social gathering at 7 p.m. at Great Basin Brewing Co. in Carson City will follow.

Drift smoke from the Oak Fire near Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County moved into the Sierra Front and western Nevada overnight. The fire remains active with smoke impacts likely to continue. As of Sunday morning, both Gardnerville and Minden's air quality was in the "unhealthy range," according to airnow.gov.

Summer poetry writing workshop participants read their poems Monday

Cheer on your friends and neighbors as they read poetry they’ve written this summer! On Monday July 25 at 6pm, participants who have been in a Creative Aging poetry writing series with Nevada Poet Laureate Gailmarie Pahmeier will read from work generated in their month-long workshop experience.

Fire season is year-round. In the past, wildfires normally occurred in late summer and early fall when temperatures were high, humidity was low and vegetation extremely dry. Local, state, and federal fire managers now know that devastating wildfires can occur any time of year. Over 90 percent of wildfires are caused by people and are completely preventable.

UPDATE 9:22 p.m.: It was determined that the victim of the gun shot was also the suspect -- as he was getting out of a car, he accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own shotgun before he was taken to the hospital.

A suspect is at large following a shooting that occurred this evening in the area of Sherman Lane and Kit Sierra.

One male victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but they do not appear to be life threatening, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help Identifying a Burglary Suspect.

On Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at approximately 3:00 AM a suspect wearing a long sleeve shirt (possibly with the Carhartt logo and lettering down the sleeve), jeans, white shoes, a dark colored backpack with writing on upper portion near a Jan sport logo and a white bandana over his face entered Wing Stop.

On Thursday, Roney Rolando Gonzalez-Otazo, the man who pled guilty to two counts of reckless driving following a fatal crash in Nov. 2021 was sentenced to 18 - 60 months on each count to be served consecutively, resulting in a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison.

UPDATE: According to a Facebook post posted by Myesha’s aunt, Myesha has been found safe in San Francisco.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating Myesha Gaines. Myesha was last seen in the area of Zephyr Cove on 7/20/22.

She is possibly in the Carson City or Lake Tahoe area. Myesha’s current whereabouts are unknown. Myesha is 5’5" and weighs approximately 105 pounds.

During the pandemic, people across the U.S. found new ways to be creative and active while many events and venues were shut down — especially for children.

One such activity that gripped a small hiking community in Carson City was painting rocks. While this might seem odd to some, rock-painting has become a nationwide activity throughout the past decade or so, but no time more so than during the pandemic.

Over the weekend of July 16, Carson City hosted the 21st Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs, a premier ultra distance race that encircled the Eastern Sierra west of town. Once a local Sierra endurance race, the TRTER has grown into one of the elite ultra distance races in the country while continuing to be a fully volunteer run operation that makes substantial donations to local organizations.

Bring home happiness this weekend with a special cat or kitten from Catmandu as part of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary National Adoption Weekend. The event is this Friday through Sunday July 22-24, from 11am to 3:30 pm.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating a missing woman who last had contact with family in early May.

Greater Nevada Mortgage (GNM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU), is one of a select number of mortgage lenders participating in the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco’s Workforce Initiative Subsidy for Homeownership (WISH) program. Through the program, eligible low- to middle-income homebuyers in Nevada may qualify for 4-to-1 matching grants of up to $22,000 in down payment assistance.

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 12 and July 14 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Lakes Course. Twenty-five members competed in the two-day, net tournament. Amber Graham won the tournament with a net score of 141. Dede Nieto was the runner-up, with a score of 143.

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming live production of "Matilda: The Musical, Jr.," playing eight performances weekends July 22-31, 2022 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

The Carson City Treasurer’s Office is announcing the issuance and mailing of the 2022-2023 Real Property Tax bill. This bill covers the period from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. Carson City property owners should see their property tax bills arrive in the mail around Friday, July 22, 2022.

On Wednesday, the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office filed additional charges against Troy Driver, the suspected killer of 18-year-old Naomi Irion.

In addition to open murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary of a vehicle, destruction of evidence and other charges already filed against Driver, the Lyon County District Attorney added felony sexual assault and a felon in possession of a gun.

RENO, Nev. – A Reno resident made her initial appearance on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carla L. Baldwin for allegedly conspiring to commit bank robbery and for bank robbery.

Shanequa Charles, 31, is charged in a superseding indictment with one count of Conspiracy to Commit Bank Robbery and Bank Robbery.

RENO — Researchers attempting to help predict how the wildfire hazard will change due to various factors over the next several decades have some good news, and some bad news. Good news is, wildfire occurrence and intensity will likely decrease in several locations in the future. The bad news: decreases may not occur for another 50 years, and wildfire hazard will likely get worse before it gets better.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators are asking for the public's help identifying the suspect who stole a pickup earlier this month.

MINDEN — On Tuesday July 19 at approximately 2:00 pm, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1392 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. The search warrant was the result of information learned the previous day when patrol deputies had responded to the address for a medical call and observed drug paraphernalia along with obvious children’s toys throughout the house.

A 33-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Division of State Parks is currently accepting grant project pre-applications in anticipation of the 2023 Federal Highway Administration funding of the Recreational Trails Program. On Monday evening, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission and Open Space Advisory Committee held a joint meeting to discuss proposed guidance and regulations for where and how dogs can recreate within the Carson City community.

CARSON CITY — GreenUP!, an environmental education non-profit working with local businesses, is encouraging restaurant patrons to participate in the month of Plastic Free July by joining their reusable takeout container program.
