Carson High School graduate Hayden Breiter won one of the nation’s highest awards at the 2022 SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta, this past June 22-23, 2022. Kasey Kemmet, Carson High School SkillsUSA advisor, accompanied Breiter to Atlanta. Breiter was awarded a Skill Point Certificate in Restaurant Service.

Retired USFS Ranger and published author Frank Tortorich leads this hike by asking “Do you see what you are looking at?” and urges people to see glaciation and more in the forest they think they know. A meander over a couple of miles, pausing to appreciate the many hidden treasures of the forest. All participants will leave with knowledge of the forest! This event is 1-2 hours to Frog Lake. Organizers of the July 4 fireworks show that was cancelled at the last minute by the Carson City Fire Department due to wind conditions, has been rescheduled for this Saturday, July 9, between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. wind permitting at Mills Park.

The Nevada Humane Society has officially kicked off its Duck, Duck, Cat promotion Tuesday in advance of the annual Duck Race event August 27 at Wingfield Park in Reno. For the next two weeks when people buy $90 worth of ducks to support the duck race, they can get a free cat or kitten.

SPARKS, Nev. — In a continuation of food security efforts to ensure food is available to those who need it, the Nevada Department of Agriculture is seeking to fund projects to improve food access, distribution and infrastructure in Nevada. A total of $9 million is available using American Rescue Plan Act funds through two grants in which community organizations, food banks, and public and Tribal entities engaged in food assistance activities are encouraged to submit projects for funding.

The Fourth of July fireworks display at Mills Park has been canceled due to windy conditions, per the Carson City Fire Department.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced it will continue preventative fire measures at the Prison Hill Off Highway Vehicle Area and the motorized trailhead/parking located on Golden Eagle Lane in Carson City. During days when there's a Red Flag wind warning issued, the trail will be closed.

Around 3 p.m. on Friday Carson City deputies and first responders were dispatched to two separate crash incidences.

One occurred on Highway 50 and involved a motorcycle versus vehicle.

The other involved a rollover crash near College and Research Way.
