Voters pass measure providing 2 fire stations, full-time firefighters in Central Lyon County
Lyon County residents voted in favor of providing additional staffing to fire stations in the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.
As of Wednesday morning, 63 percent of voters (4,572) voted in favor of the tax initiative, which will levy a property tax of $0.23 per $100 of assessed property valuation on the residents within the fire district.
The tax will allow the district to staff two additional fire stations with full-time firefighter-paramedics, bringing the total number of stations from two to four.
The two stations that will receive career firefighter-paramedics are the Silver Springs Fire Station and the Dayton Valley Road Fire Station.
The initial tax rate created by voters to fund emergency services was initiated in 1971, and has not been updated since.
