Well, not technically. And neither is tomorrow! Nevada Day is actually on Oct. 31, the official day that Nevada became a state all the way back in 1864.

CARSON CITY — In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Carson High School NJROTC cadets sold pink aiguillettes to wear on their uniforms with all proceeds donated to the Carson Tahoe Health Cancer Center. The battalion provided an oversized check in the amount of $1,000 to Carson Tahoe Health representatives Angelina Craig, director of philanthropy, and Brittany Munns, philanthropy coordinator, yesterday on the football field.

When people think of the Catholic holiday celebration of "Carnivál", the first thing that comes to mind usually isn’t the state of Nevada or the tiny mining town of Virginia City. However, Carnivál celebrations can be traced back over a hundred years in the Silver State!

CARSON CITY — The ability to support Nevada’s seniors, people with disabilities and vulnerable populations will be improved with funds allocated during the Oct. 20 Legislative Interim Finance Committee meeting.

Nevada’s five legal aid organizations providing legal help to Nevadans who cannot afford an attorney, along with the Access to Justice Commission, a Nevada Supreme Court-created group promoting equal civil justice, announced a statewide campaign to recruit Silver State lawyers to help Nevadans with critical legal matters.
