Voters brave long, snowy lines on Election Day in Carson City
Voters bundled up to brave the snow in order to cast their vote Tuesday at the Carson City Community Center.
Polls remain open today, Tuesday, Nov. 8 until 7 p.m.
While results of in-person voting, early voting and mail-in voting will be available Tuesday night, the election will not be certified until Nov. 18. This will give poll workers time to count mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day, but were postmarked by Nov. 8.
As of Tuesday morning, there have been more than 10,000 mail-in ballots submitted, along with 6,275 early voters, according to Carson City Clerk-Recorder Aubrey Rowlatt.
By comparison in the 2018 midterm elections, 13,095 voters elected to vote early, with 2,427 sending in absentee ballots. 7,226 voters turned out in-person to vote on Election Day.
During the 2020 General Election (the first to use wide-spread mail-in ballots due to the pandemic) 54 percent (15,110) elected to mail-in their ballots, 37 percent (11,100) arrived for early voting, and 8.72 (2,559) showed up on election day.
Stay tuned for election results this evening. Carson Now will update with Carson City, Lyon County, Douglas County, and Storey County results as soon as they are made available.
