Three men were arrested Friday evening at a home in the 1000 block of Colorado Street on a variety of drug-related charges.

Deputies came to the home to serve a contempt of court warrant on Craig McDonald, 57, who reportedly lives in the home with his mother, stepfather, brother and his brother's fiancee. Deputies had received tips that the home was the site of frequent drug activity.

CARSON CITY – With the Nevada campaign season kicking into high gear in the four weeks remaining before election day, candidates and their supporters are also starting to focus on what could mean the difference between victory and defeat: voter turnout.

Rain and much cooler temperatures have descended over the region.
Storm totals on Sunday afternoon in Carson City were at .17", with significant chance of more through at least midweek.
This rain event broke a rather lengthy dry spell of 54 days without precipitation.

A herd of wild tractors has taken up residence in northern Carson Valley. These shy beasts are sometimes seen around town in small numbers, but a gathering of this size is rare these days. They are known for their ability to chew up sagebrush and leave behind patches of bare dirt, an ability that can be beneficial to humans sometimes but can also lead to huge dust storms. A similar herd gathered at Topsy Lane at the Riverwood development a couple of years ago, and the scars from that are still visible.

With a goal of 300 drivers, Capital Ford's Drive One 4UR School was on par Saturday to raise $6,000 for Carson High School athletic programs.

More than 300 Carson City residents took a test drive of 12 Ford 2010 and 2011 model cars and trucks at the Carson High School parking lot Saturday to support the girls soccer and basketball teams.

"Carson City once again continues to show its true spirit as a community by getting behind fundraising events such as Drive One 4UR School," said Tim Milligan, general manager for Capital Ford in Carson City.

A 24-yard final field goal by Carson Senator Austin Pacheco in overtime, his third one of the night, brought home yet another victory for the Carson City high school football team, reports Carsonsports.com.
Pacheco's winning kick was the difference as the Carson High football team kept its undefeated season record intact with a thrilling 16-13 victory against arch rival Douglas on Friday night.

After a pleasant week of unseasonably warm temperatures, it looks like autumn is on its way to the Carson City region and the Sierra.

Carson City businesses who deal in pawn and trade were given an update Thursday on revised laws by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The update is designed to stop the sale of stolen property to pawn shops by thugs, drug addicts and dealers.

The statute reads: Pursuant to NRS 646.060 a Pawn Broker or, NRS 647.140 a second hand dealer, must not receive property from anyone under the age of 18, common drunkard, habitual known criminals, their associates and or their agents.

Nevada’s state and local governments have wasted millions of taxpayer dollars over the past two years through lavish and wasteful spending – in some cases by outright theft – according to a new study from the Nevada Policy Research Institute (NPRI) and Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will consider a proposal to operate the Arlington Square Ice Rink for another season at the board's Oct. 7 meeting.

According to the staff summary, "This request is to expend $192,730 from the General Fund to support the operations of the Arlington Square Ice Rink for the 2010-2011 season. Staff is estimating that the ice skating rink will bring in $86,475; therefore the net subsidy will be $106,255."

Freida Carbery of Dayton has been named Nevada Prevention Fellow. As an organizer for the Dayton Food Bank through the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties, Carbery has engaged dozens of community volunteers in the region.

CARSON CITY – State Assemblyman John Hambrick has requested four bills for the 2011 session to continue with his mission of eliminating child prostitution in Nevada.

A Carson City man wanted since August by authorities for allegedly wielding a baseball bat and using it to threaten an elderly man after breaking into his home and then stealing a motorcycle, turned himself into police.
Ralph Allen Keith Jr., 24, of Carson City faces four felony charges including robbery against a person 60 years of age or older, home invasion, extortion and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. A warrant for his arrest was issued Sept. 15 for the Aug. 29 crime, by the Justice Court of Carson Township.

CARSON CITY – The percentage of people living in poverty in Nevada increased to 12.4 percent in 2009 from 11.6 percent in 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau reported this week.
A total of 321,940 Nevadans were estimated to be living below the poverty level in 2009, an increase of more than 25,000 from the prior year, according to the census data.

CARSON CITY – Nevada state Assemblyman Ed Goedhart, R-Amargosa Valley, said today he will voluntarily file his campaign contribution and expense report before early voting begins to give the public adequate time to review the information.
Goedhart, who is running for re-election, said he is joining with Secretary of State Ross Miller in filing his report well ahead of the deadline now in state law.

The Carson City region's PFLAG chapter (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will again sponsor a Candidate’s Night on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family Friendship Hall at 1201 North Saliman Road in Carson City. Flu shots for anyone over 6 months of age, and commodities food distribution for those in need from Dayton, Silver City and Stagecoach takes place at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way and Highway 50 in Dayton on Oct. 21, between noon and 5 p.m.

Health and Human Services recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. On Oct. 21 only, between noon and 5pm, Carson Health nurses will be able to provide the following types of flu shots at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way:
