Carson City sheriff's patrol officers made a number of assault and drug-related arrests over the weekend, several of which were for felony possession. Among the arrests:

A 19-year-old woman faces a felony drug charge after Carson City authorities found she and a friend, also 19, to be under the influence, inhaling canned pressurized air around children and families at Mills Park.

Organizers of the 30th annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow to be held in Carson City during the Nevada Day weekend say the event is taking shape and are looking for sponsors and raffle donations to help bring the event to its fullest.

The pow wow began 30 years ago at the Carson Indian Colony. It is and has always been a part of the Nevada Day celebrations, said co-organizer Brandi Colunga.

However, through the years, some of those who participated in organizing it have stepped down. So, along with Martin Montgomery, the two are hoping to continue the tradition.

The Stanton Arms Apartment complex received some new playground equipment over the weekend, thanks to local law enforcement officers and Partnership Carson City.

About $3,000 went toward monkey bars, basketball hoops and tetherball courts at the complex. Partnership director Kathy Bartosz said the playground equipment was paid for through the Office of Criminal Justice Assistance and the partnership as part of an ongoing outreach to connect kids to law officers and to provide activities for them.

The apartment complex is between Edmonds and Woodside.

Carson City Symphony's comprehensive program of string instruction begins the last week of August, after school, at four locations in Carson City.

Strings in the Schools, directed by the Symphony's Education Director, Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5, a beginning cello program for selected 5th graders, and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.

UPDATE: A brush fire burning in the Brunswick Canyon area that started Saturday night has been contained, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. The fire burned about 30 acres.
Much of the thick smoke in the Carson City region is from the American Fire, burning west of Lake Tahoe, which has consumed about 13,750 acres.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Aug. 19-25. The long line striping project will continue at various locations throughout the city during the night hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Minor delays are possible in the areas of striping activity.

Due to continued construction of the Carson City Freeway project the following road closures are in effect: (Detours are signed).

— Roland Street is expected to close for 1 to 2 weekdays between Bigelow Drive and Ponderosa Drive for repaving.
