Potential for heavy rain, thunderstorms in the forecast for Carson City region
Thunderstorms and the potential for heavy rain are in the forecast for Carson City and much of northern Nevada through at least Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
An upper low off the central California coast will remain nearly stationary Sunday with moisture increasing as a south to southeast flow pulls in additional moisture from the southwest. This will likely result in the development of thunderstorms along the Sierra and parts of western Nevada Sunday afternoon. Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties are in the weather service zones for the potential for thunderstorms.
Locally heavy rain and deadly lightning will be the biggest impacts, according to the weather service. As moisture continues to increase, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread Monday through Wednesday with an increasing risk of severe weather, heavy rain and the possibility of flash floods.
