With the 2014 season a little more than five months away, the Western Nevada College baseball and softball teams will take advantage of the mild fall months ahead in Carson City to prepare their rosters for the spring season.

Baseball coach D.J. Whittemore’s fall scrimmage schedule includes eight home dates at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

Two Carson City men face drug charges after officers found methamphetamine in a vehicle.

Stephen Charles Wilhoite, 47, and Dennis Lloyd Lee, 44, were arrested Aug. 21 in the 2000 block of Oak Ridge Drive. According to the arrest report, officers with the Special Enforcement Team went to a residence to serve a felony warrant.

This was our 10 anniversary competition held here in Carson City, Nev., and the third time we were able to stage the competitions on the Main Highway through Downtown.

The 53rd annual Virginia City Camel Races will begin on Sept. 6, and once again the media will enlighten us on how the race was born over a half century ago, with a hoax published in the Territorial Enterprise in 1959 by then editor, Bob Richards.

The story is true. Richards, however, was a hellava lot more than the father of the Virginia City Camel Races. A talented individual with a creative mind, Richards was a driving force for the promotion of tourism on the Comstock for the 14 years he lived here.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Due to continued construction of the Carson City Freeway project the following road closures are in effect:

Roland Street is expected to close for 1 to 2 weekdays between Bigelow Drive and Ponderosa Drive for repaving.
Bigelow Drive has been permanently closed between Bennett Avenue and Roland Street and there may be periods of temporary closures between Roland Street and Appion Way.

Carson City fire department, sheriff's office and search and rescue responded Friday night to an injured 23-year-old Lake Tahoe climber in Clear Creek Canyon. The climber was stuck hanging from rocks in the canyon and may have compound fractures, said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Care Flight was ordered to respond to the scene however the smoke was too thick for a helicopter to land. The climber was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The HopeFest Benefit Concert at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center has been canceled due to hazardous air quality from Rim Fire smoke. Carson Tahoe Health Foundation had net proceeds of over $50,000 for their 2012 2nd Annual Carson City HopeFest fundraiser. The CTH Foundation is the only non-profit organization focused on supporting Carson area cancer patients with living expenses. PLEASE HELP FILL the Hope Chest with your generous donation.
