UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong tells Carson Now that the man found shot in the head on Cortez Street appears to be a self-inflicted wound. It is unknown if the man is alive or not. The sheriff said the man "took a .357 shot to the temple" in what appears to be a suicide.

A Care Flight helicopter was ordered Thursday evening after a 46-year-old man was found in the 3000 block of Cortez Street in Carson City with a gunshot wound to the head, according to dispatch via police scanner.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is marking this year’s Lake Tahoe Summit by highlighting the Environmental Improvement Program’s 15 years of achievement restoring and protecting Lake Tahoe’s fragile ecosystem.

Launched at the 1997 Presidential Forum at Lake Tahoe by then President Bill Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore, the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) is a partnership of more than 50 federal, state, and local agencies, private interests, and the Washoe Tribe.

Western Nevada College is collaborating with local business leaders in the hospitality industry to provide training to resort, hotel and restaurant employees. The Carson City Chamber of Commerce, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carson Valley Inn, and Hampton Inn and Suites are all part of the effort.

The Carson City Fire Department will host an eight-week free Citizens Fire Academy, Sept. 10 through Oct. 29. The program is designed to give an overview of the fire department, emergency operations, public safety dispatch and other emergency services.

The academy is ideal for those wanting to know how emergency calls are dispatched; why an engine will respond with an ambulance on medical emergencies and how to make homes or businesses safe.

A female black bear and her cub, both having a recently acquired taste for honey, were caught Thursday morning in the Foothill Road area of Carson Valley by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

The adult female was caught in the trap at around 2 a.m., said Chris Healy, spokesman for the Nevada Department of Wildlife. A trap was set in the area 10 days ago because there were complaints of bears doing damage to bee hives. The female cub was up a tree, above the trap, when biologist Carl Lackey responded.

U.S. Representative Mark Amodei will address the citizens of Carson City on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 8 a.m. at the Silver Oak Executive Conference Center.

During his vacation break from Congress, Amodei has been traveling northern Nevada to address his constituents and to bring them up-to-date on what is or is not happening in Washington D.C.

Always an amusing speaker, Amodei will deliver thoughtful commentary along with a dose of wit to his address.

A Carson City man was jailed Wednesday and faces three felony charges including fraudulent use of a credit card after, among other things, allegedly stealing identity from a victim and charging hotel rooms on a Visa card.

Scott Michael Westman, 44, was arrested in the 2700 block of Carson Street. According to the arrest report, officers responded to a motel to assist the Colorado Springs Police Department in identifying a theft report. While responding to the hotel, dispatch advised a man had used information to obtain a credit card, which was being run up at the hotel.
