The Silver Springs Airport in Lyon County will be home to a Nevada drone company test site. The airport has been picked as a hub by Nevada Institute of Autonomous Systems as an operations location for unmanned autonomous vehicle systems, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page in a Friday statement.

The deal was made through a partnership with Lyon County and working closely with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Northern Nevada Development Authority, said Page.

Nevada's casinos saw gaming profits increase by 9.6 percent statewide in December, though figures in the Carson City region were down 1.85 percent.

Carson City area casinos, which include gaming establishments in Gardnerville, Minden and all area of Douglas County except Tahoe, took in $7,716,979 for December 2013 compared to $7,862,056 for the same month in 2012.

A Nevada state senator plans to introduce a bill at the 2015 Legislature that would give terminally ill patients the ability to voluntarily end their lives.

The bill is expected to be modeled after Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act, which allows patients with a projected life expectancy of six months to request a prescription for self-ingested medication to end life, said state Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, who plans to introduce the bill.

A Carson City man faces three felony charges included possession of stolen credit cards and drugs after a Jan. 25 arrest near Fairview and Highway 50 East.

Casey Justin Cribbins, 25, is being held on $29,364 bail. A Sheridan, Wyo., woman who was with him faces misdemeanor warrant charges.

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada, Reno’s Seismological Laboratory reports an ongoing swarm of earthquakes near Virginia City, Nev. since Tuesday, Jan. 21. To date, over 100 events have been located. Four have been larger than magnitude 3.0, in the past two days.

There have been no reports of damage. The larger events have been felt in Virginia City about 8 miles to the southwest and in Reno about 10 miles west of the swarm.

Carson City fire and rescue responded this afternoon to a single-vehicle accident on the freeway in the northbound lane south of William Street.

The accident was reported at 12:47 p.m. The driver of the car was reported to have an injury to her arm and a laceration to her head.

Bordewich Bray Elementary in Carson City was evacuated briefly this afternoon due to a false fire alarm. A call came into dispatch at around 12:30 p.m. asking Carson City firefighters to respond to the school because a fire alarm was triggered and an evacuation was in progress.

NV Energy has been experiencing power outages since Wednesday night in Carson City, Douglas County and in the Yerington area.

In the Smith Valley area around 500 customers were without power beginning at around 8 a.m., Thursday morning including customers in Topaz Ranch Estates. The outage is due to downed wires, said NV Energy spokeswoman Faye Andersen.
