A U.S. Senate Committee has passed a bill authorizing hundreds of millions of dollars for environmental projects at Lake Tahoe.
The bill sponsored by Sens. Harry Reid and Dean Heller of Nevada and Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer of California authorizes more than $400 million over 10 years.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies with the Special Enforcement Team discovered a significant amount of methamphetamine — around 60 grams — that resulted in arrests Wednesday at a Carson City motel room.

Jacob Pacheaco, 27, of Carson City, faces charges of level 3 drug trafficking and possession with intent to sell, both felonies and gross misdemeanor destruction of evidence. He is being held on $259,632 bail.

Carson City government finances are good, though not exceptional, Mayor Robert Crowell said Wednesday as he urged a boost in sales tax to do capital projects. In a State of the City speech at a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored breakfast, Crowell cited a $1.1 million bulge in ending balance last year, solid bond ratings and prospects for rising city revenues.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) in the theft of several parts from vehicles in various locations in the Gardnerville Ranchos area.

The first report occurred on January 9, 2014 where a victim reported the rear bumper was stolen from his 2011 Toyota pickup. This incident occurred at 1035 Riverview Drive.

A wet pattern is expected into the weekend as a series of storms lined up in the Pacific should make it to the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

The first storm is expected Thursday and will spread snow into the eastern Sierra with lighter snow near the valley floors of western Nevada. The heaviest snow is expected in the Sierra south of Interstate 80.
