You could say Perry and Starr Nixdorf were jumping into the deep end of the pool when they decided to create Paradise Salon-Spa-Wellness, which celebrates its grand opening March 27-29.

It’s not just that they bought a building that is seven times larger than the previous salon space they rented on Winnie Lane. Or that they went from a staff of four to 19 independent contractors. Or that they expanded from doing hair and body piercing to just about every salon/spa service you could ask for.

A 32-year-old home care worker turned herself into the Carson City Sheriff's Office early Tuesday on a felony warrant for her arrest.

Amy Lynne Wolf of Carson City was taken into custody at 1 a.m. on March 25. A warrant was issued Feb. 27, 2014 on a charge of suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card. A $5,000 bondable was set and she was released from jail on that bond.

In other arrests: A man jailed Sunday on felony drug and fugitive charges had an additional misdemeanor charge added Tuesday after he failed to appear in a Carson City courtroom in May 2007 on a traffic citation.

In light of the recent rabies incident, Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital will be hosting a talk, "Understanding Rabies."

Debra Brus, DVM, former Senior Epidemiologist for the Washoe County District Health Department will be guest presenter. It will be held in the Bonanza room at the Carson City Community Center on Tuesday, April 8 at 6 p.m.

Guild Mortgage Company announced Wednesday the opening of a new location in Carson City. The new branch will be a satellite to the Zephyr Cove-based branch at Lake Tahoe.

Deborah Mae (Debbie) Humphrey, branch manager of the Zephyr Cove location, will also manage the new branch. Humphrey has more than 20 years of experience serving Carson Valley and is enthusiastic about expanding Guild's presence.

The Carson City Republican Central Committee will host a candidate forum on Thursday, March 27, 7 p.m. at the Silver State Charter High School, 788 Fairview Drive in Carson City. A meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the forum.

The public is welcome to attend the March meeting of Carson City Republican Central Committee and to meet the candidates that are running for local office. Get to know the candidates you will be voting for in the June primaries.

A storm moving into the region will bring strong winds to the Sierra, Carson City and western Nevada areas today and overnight into Wednesday, with up to 18 inches of snow expected near the Sierra crest, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Wind gusts today and tonight will approach 45 mph in valley locations with stronger gusts in wind prone areas. Ridge gusts will approach 80 mph.

East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts responded at 6 a.m. Tuesday to a structure fire in the 400 block of Natures Edge in the Jobs Peak residential area of Gardnerville.

East Fork committed 36 firefighter personnel and 4 chief officers, staffing 6 engines, 3 rescues, 1 heavy rescue and 4 brush trucks to this fire. The fire was a difficult fire to control due the type of heavy timber construction and metal roofing on parts of the structure.
