Around the nation and in Nevada, the Common Core debate over school standards is heating up.

A protest is planned April 5 at the Legislature building in Carson City, and the group Stop Common Core Nevada predicts its next forum in Fallon will be its biggest yet.

Here's the Carson City Public Works road report for the week of March 24-30, 2014. There will be intermittent closures of the outside northbound and southbound lanes on South Carson Street / Highway 395 between Highway 50 and Snyder Avenue related to the current freeway construction project.

Western Nevada College moved into second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball standings by winning a four-game series from host College of Southern Nevada on Thursday and Friday in Henderson.

The Wildcats, based in Carson City, won the first three games of the series before the Coyotes edged WNC 4-3 Friday to deny a sweep. WNC improved to 7-5 in the SWAC, trailing only Salt Lake (11-2). CSN is 4-8 in conference play.

It's a little late for Ground Hog Day, but the Carson City Board of Supervisors will have to redo the two votes required for raising the sales tax by 1/8 cent they approved two weeks ago.

According to District Attorney Neil Rombardo, they could not find the documentation to prove that notices were posted in City Hall two weeks prior to the two board meetings on Feb. 20 and March 6.

UPDATE: Central Lyon County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Mark Darragh reports there were no injuries in this afternoon's accident on Highway 50 near Highland. One person was looked over and declined medical treatment, he said.

Restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division.
Inspections from March 13-19, 2014 include supermarkets, several bars and lounges, restaurants, fast food restaurants and take-out establishments, the culinary arts kitchen and sports field concession stand at Carson High School and the dining facility at Friends In Service Helping, otherwise known as FISH.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved moving forward with approaching Larry Werner, retired Carson City Manager and resident of Douglas County, as a possible Interim County Manager. The Interim County Manager will serve over the next several months during the recruitment process for a new County Manager.

The Board discussed several options for interim management at its meeting at Lake Tahoe on Thursday, March 20, 2014, including appointment of qualified individuals from within and outside the organization.

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, March 20, on multiple misdemeanor warrant charges including contempt of court and larceny.

According to the arrest report, the sergeant for the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team was patrolling the area of William and Rand streets at around 10 p.m. when he observed the suspect and knew he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Women to Women will feature an interview with Sue Lowden, a candidate for Nevada lieutenant governor, on Thursday, March 27. The broadcast had been set to air on Charter TV this week.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Thursday on felony charges of possession of stolen property and grand larceny of an automobile, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Jonathan Baumgardner is being held on $25,000 bail. He admitted to stealing a vehicle, stripping it of its tires and rims and then dumping it in a parking lot, according to the arrest report filed by the investigating detective.
