Fire burns large home in Douglas County residential area
East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts responded at 6 a.m. Tuesday to a structure fire in the 400 block of Natures Edge in the Jobs Peak residential area of Gardnerville.
East Fork committed 36 firefighter personnel and 4 chief officers, staffing 6 engines, 3 rescues, 1 heavy rescue and 4 brush trucks to this fire. The fire was a difficult fire to control due the type of heavy timber construction and metal roofing on parts of the structure.
The structure is an approximate 10,000 square foot multi-level single family residence. The fire is suspected to have started from the chimney that spread across the attic and into a portion of the residence. The residence was occupied at the time of the fire. The home’s occupants all were able to escape the fire.
The Jobs’ Peak area is a heavily wooded interface gated community at the base of Jobs Peak in Douglas County. Because of the potential of high winds in the area, wildland firefighting contingencies are being put in place around the structure. Complete extinguishment of the structure fire is not expected until late afternoon.
No injuries have been reported at this time. Fire crews are still working this fire.
