Anticipation for Saturday's Big Chicken grand opening in Carson City came with a "soft opening" Wednesday bringing a hungry lunch crowd to check out the popular chicken chain restaurant founded by retired NBA basketball great Shaquille O'Neal.

New trustee to fill Douglas County School Board vacancy after long debate

Following the resignation of Douglas County School Board Trustee Tony Magnotta due to ongoing contentions with the board, a new trustee was appointed Tuesday evening to fill his vacancy.
The choice to fill the vacancy came down between a Master Electrician and a Douglas County School District Paraprofessional.
Nevada State Police, NDOT advise motorists to avoid travel; another storm this weekend

With the latest storm having blanketed western Nevada with six inches to a foot or more of snow, and another storm setting up to follow late Friday into Saturday, law enforcement and state transportation officials are urging motorists to take all winter driving safety precautions, including avoiding unnecessary travel.

Governor closes state government offices Thursday in Northern Nevada due to storm

Due to the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety reporting severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions, Gov. Joe Lombardo has ordered all State executive branch government offices (other than essential public safety and corrections personnel) remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, in Carson City, Churchill County, Douglas County, Lyon County, Mineral County, Persing County, Storey County, and Washoe County.
Carson City Senior Center closed Thursday, Meals on Wheels not delivering

Due to the weather and out of an abundance of caution for our Meals on Wheels drivers, staff, volunteers and seniors in the community, the Carson City Senior Center will be closed and Meals on Wheels will not be delivering today, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Lyon County offices, schools closed Thursday due to inclement weather

Due to inclement weather and potentially dangerous road conditions, all Lyon County offices (other than essential public safety personnel), and schools will be closed today, Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024. Lyon County emergency and snow removal personnel are working to address public safety concerns.
