775 Offroad and Recovery rescues stranded family of four near Stampede Reservoir
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 01/14/2024 - 6:35amOn Jan. 11, 9:30 a.m., while the greater Reno area was digging out from over two feet of snow, the Sierra County, California Sheriff's Office contacted 775 Offroad and Recovery (775OFR) regarding a family of four, including 2 young children, stranded overnight near Stampede Reservoir in a Lincoln Navigator. 775OFR is a non-profit dedicated to recovering anyone stranded off-road, staffed entirely by volunteers, including their 24-hour dispatch line.

Around 1,000 Carson City residents without power Saturday evening due to outages, downed power lines
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 01/13/2024 - 6:37pmAs of 5:30 p.m., approximately 1,000 Carson City residents are without power according to NV Energy.
The outages are occurring throughout the capital city. Multiple downed power lines and overturned trees are being reported. Fire fighters and first responders are responding to many of these calls.
Northbound and southbound lanes blocked in Washoe Valley due to overturned vehicles
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 01/13/2024 - 4:38pmUPDATE 5:20 p.m.: While many NDOT traffic cams are down due to the wind through Washoe Valley, it appears at this time that southbound traffic is able to make it into the valley.
Any vehicles over 9 feet are not permitted. Wind speeds are extremely high, please use caution.
UPDATE 4:40 p.m.: A driver from the second crash is being transported to the hospital for a potential head injury. Both southbound lanes are still blocked at this time. One lane is still open northbound.
UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: A second crash is now blocking both southbound lanes in Washoe Valley between Bellevue and Lakeview according to dispatch.

Around 3:20 p.m. a crash involving an overturned semi in Washoe Valley was reported.
The right lane is blocked bear Bellevue Road in the Northbound lanes.
Carson City man arrested for allegedly harming mother during mental health crisis
Submitted by admin on Sat, 01/13/2024 - 3:43pmA 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested for domestic battery just after 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex on report that the man had punched a neighbor in the face while walking past the man’s front door.

His work ranges from landscapes to flora and fauna; historic buildings to his favorite – cows. Mark has enjoyed photography since he was a kid. It remains a passion to this day. His photos are of areas from Mad Canyon’s majestic peaks to Gardnerville’s Meadows, historic locales from Genoa to Virginia City, barns to classic cars.

High Avalanche danger announced for Greater Lake Tahoe area through Sunday
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 01/13/2024 - 11:23amThe Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has issued a Backcountry Avalanche Warning for the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains from Ebbetts Pass (CA-4) north to Yuba Pass (CA-49), including the Greater Lake Tahoe area.
HIGH avalanche danger may occur through Sunday evening.
