Wind mishap causes plastic storm of tiny styrofoam beads along North Lake Tahoe beaches

A floating dock that became loose during a recent storm released an estimated 100,000 or more plastic styrofoam beads onto the pristine beaches of Ski Beach and Incline Beach at Lake Tahoe's north shore, in what Clean Up The Lake organizers called a "shocking environmental incident."

Atreyu Christopher Garcia-Howard was born at 12:06 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2024.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seek identity of suspects sought for recent Walmart thefts

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying two men suspected of stealing $1,175 worth of merchandise Dec. 22 and $679 Dec. 18 at the Walmart store on Market Street.
Douglas County School Board to interview candidates for vacant position Tuesday

Today, Tuesday Jan. 9, the Douglas County School District Board of Trustees will interview three individuals who have applied to fill the position left vacant after Trustee Tony Magnotta tendered his resignation.
The three individuals who have applied are Ricky D. Lewis, Yvonne Wagstaff, and Stephen J. Theriault.
Suit to bar Trump from Nevada ballot over role in Jan. 6 dismissed for lack of standing

A Nevada-based federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit that sought to bar former President Donald Trump from the ballot in Nevada over Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021 uprising after the judge found the Texas man who filed the case lacked standing to do so.
